Atletico Madrid and Man United clash for the first time in the UEFA Champions League this Wednesday and although both sides aren't particularly at their best, we still expect a top-quality football match.
Big wins for both sides last weekend
The LaLiga Santander defending champions bounced back from a disheartening loss to Levante, putting three unanswered goals past Osasuna last weekend. Suarez, Felix and Correa were on the scoresheet for the Rojiblancos as they look to get back in the top four places. They're currently in 5th position on the league standings but all of that would be put aside as they eye a first-leg advantage against the Mancunians. Diego Simeone's crop managed to scrap their way to a place in the knockouts having managed just two wins in the group stage. Nonetheless, they're still in with a chance to lift the coveted cup but a return of four losses and three wins in their last seven games in all competitions doesn't bode well for their prospects.
Man United have managed to pick up some steam ahead of this Wednesday's tie with two wins in as many games. Leeds United last weekend was a test of their metal but two goals from substitutes Fred and Anthony Elanga made sure of all three points in a 4-2 victory at Elland Road. This was a much-needed win in a very heated top-four race and Raf Rangnick's troops are now in 4th position but we predict that the race for next season's Champions League in England's top-flight doesn't end here. A couple of cutch goals from Cristiano Ronaldo made sure of the top spot for the Mancunians in the group stage and given the Portuguese forward's recent performances against Atletico Madrid, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him on the scoresheet against his former club's local rivals.
