There’s plenty of action in the Europa League on Thursday as we round up the round of 16 matches. Our focus for this one will be at the Molineux Stadium as Wolves welcome Olympiacos for the second leg of a tie that promises to excite.

The first leg ended in a stalemate, both sides settling for a 1-1 draw. However, Wolves would be a bit disappointed with themselves they didn’t get that precious away win as the Greek giants were a man down for about 60 minutes of play- Ruben Semedo seeing red in the 29th minute.

Wolves finishing in the seventh position, and Arsenal winning the FA Cup for a record 14th time means that Wolverhampton Wanderers would have to go all the way in this competition if they’re to rub shoulders with Europe’s elite next season.

They needed to win to secure 6th position as they travelled to Stamford Bridge on the final day of the season. Disappointment would be the order of the day as they lost 2-0 courtesy of a brilliant Mason Mount free-kick and a late first-half strike from Olivier Giroud. Their woes were compounded a week later as Chelsea lost to 8th placed Arsenal in the FA Cup final, as The Gunners grabbed the final Europa League spot for themselves.

Olympiacos on the other hand are coming into this one full of confidence after they secured their second Greece super League title in six years- their 45th League title in their illustrious history.

However, they would be looking to correct an anomaly in said illustrious history as they haven’t managed to progress past the quarter-finals stage of any European competition. Their best finish came back in 1999 as they reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

Olympiacos wouldn’t be able to field star center back Ruben Semedo after seeing red last time out. Goalkeeper Jose Sa is also doubtful following a wrist injury. Wolves on the flipside don’t have any injury problems.

Both teams are heading into this tie with European glory in mind. However, we fancy Wolves to qualify in the end as they’re really tough to beat on home soil.
