High-flying Blues welcome Man United to the Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon in what is expected to be the Premier League's match of the weekend. Read on for our expert tips and predictions.
We expect both sides to do better than the goalless draw them played in both league games last season. Question is, which one of the sides gets all three points ?
Tuchel's Blues on a mission
Following their UCL victory at the end of last season, Tuchel's Blues haven't rested on their laurels as they, at the moment, look like a side that can go all the way in Europe and the league. Their 4-0 victory last Tuesday against Juventus showed exactly how good they are, cementing qualification to the group stage with a scintillating performance. Chalobah, James, Hudson-Odoi and Werner were on the scoresheet as the defending champions leapfrogged Juventus onto the summit of their group. The Blues have now won nine of their last ten matches in all competitions and baring any surprises, one could say that they're slight favourites heading into this highly-enthralling matchup.
Micheal Carrick led Man United to his first win as caretaker boss, beating Villareal to secure a place in the UCL knockout rounds. David de Gea was on top form, keeping the Yellow Submarine out with a couple of brilliant saves. His performance in goal gave United the impetus to go and cause the Villareal rearguard problems and that they did as Ronaldo netted the opener with 78 minutes gone- his 6th goal in the Champions League this season. Sancho then sealed the deal in the 90th minute with his first goal for the club. Four losses in their last five league games have ultimately dampened their title chances, however, they would surely have their sights set on the top four and a victory here would serve as a confidence boost for them to ultimately achieve their goal- whatever that may be.
Chelsea vs Man United Team News
Chelsea possible starting XI:
Mendy; Rudiger, Christensen, Thiago Silva; Chilwell, Kante, Jorginho, , James; Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech; Lukaku
Man United possible starting XI:
de Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Lindelof, Telles; McTominay, van de Beek, Fernandes, Rashford, Sancho; Ronaldo
Chelsea vs Man United Prediction: 2-1
The Blues are lightyears ahead of the leaky Mancunians who are struggling to even keep their opponents quiet and would certainly be worse off if not for David de Gea's stunning saves. As such, we would be backing the Blues to get all three points on their own patch.
