Wellington Phoenix vs Brisbane Roar Predictions, Betting Tips, and Match Preview. 05-08-20

Australian football fans will be treated to one solitary game in the Hyundai A-League on Wednesday as Wellington Pheonix and Brisbane Roar clash. With kickoff slated for 08:00 GMT, both teams will be in search of all three points in the bid to close the gap on the AFC Champions League qualification spot.

Wellington Phoenix is currently in third place on the League standings. Although they’ve played a game more than Melbourne Victory who are in second place - occupying the additional spot for AFC Champions League qualification - they’re level both on points and goal difference.

Ufuk Talay and his troops would want to get back to winning ways following their loss last time out to Western Sydney Wanderers. A 74th-minute strike from substitute Kwame Yeboah is all that was required for The Wanderers to collect all three points. Last Friday’s loss means that they will need to win their remaining two games for them to have a chance at second place.

Brisbane Roar are in the third position on the league standings, two points behind Melbourne City and Wednesday’s opponents Wellington Phoenix. Coupled with the fact that they have played one more game than Melbourne City FC, they would need an unlikely series of events for them to achieve a second-place finish.

They were impressive in their last match against Melbourne Victory as they recorded their first win following three losses with the match ending 2-1 on the day. Second-half goals from Scott McDonald and Matthew Ridenton gave them a two-goal cushion with 12 minutes of play left. They couldn’t keep the opposition from scoring however as Andrew Nabbout converted his penalty on the 86th-minute mark.

Wellington Pheonix vs Brisbane Roar prediction: 2-1

The Phoenix have a lot more to play for in what promises to be a feisty encounter. Ufuk Talay’s troops have the second-best home record and are fully expected to take advantage of that with a win on Wednesday.
