Coupled with the fact that they have played one more game than Melbourne City FC, they would need an unlikely series of events for them to achieve a second-place finish.
They were impressive in their last match against Melbourne Victory as they recorded their first win following three losses with the match ending 2-1 on the day. Second-half goals from Scott McDonald and Matthew Ridenton gave them a two-goal cushion with 12 minutes of play left. They couldn’t keep the opposition from scoring however as Andrew Nabbout converted his penalty on the 86th-minute mark.

The Phoenix have a lot more to play for in what promises to be a feisty encounter. Ufuk Talay’s troops have the second-best home record and are fully expected to take advantage of that with a win on Wednesday.
