Sevilla vs Roma Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Preview. 06-08-20

Sevilla and Roma face off in the second one-legged tie of the last-16 stage as they both contest for a spot in the Europa League quarterfinals. Both teams are set to clash at The MSV Arena in Germany with the match getting underway from 16:55 GMT.

Sevilla holds the record for most Europa League success as the Spanish giants have won the coveted cup five times- the most recent one coming back in 2016. They eliminated CFR Cluj in the last round with a win on away goals as the tie ended 1-1.

Sevilla did very well post lock-down, finishing the season unbeaten in 11 games since the restart. However, even though they restarted the season in 3rd place, they couldn’t register their first top-three finish since 08/09 as a result of a series of draws. At the end of the season, they finished level on points with Atletico Madrid but came up short in the goals difference department.

Roma on the other hand are gunning for their first-ever European title as they begin the quest to add to their under-par trophy cabinet, with their last title triumph coming back in 07/08 after they beat Internazionale 2-1 in the Coppa Italia final.

Even though they finished the season on a high, going unbeaten in their last eight matches, they would need to go all the way in this competition if they’re to play Champions League football next season after registering a 5th place finish. This would be the second season in a row in which they would finish out of the top four.

They eliminated Gent in the last round, ultimately coming out on top following a narrow 2-1 victory. The Capital club would be looking to put in the same performance they did in the last match of the season when they ended Juventus unbeaten run at the Allianz Stadium, as they emerged victors in a 3-1 win.

Tomas Vaclik wouldn’t be available for Sevilla as he’s currently nursing an injury. Sergio Regiullon and Ever Banega wouldn’t be available as both players have left the club. Fernando is a doubt while Nemanja Gudelj is ruled out after testing positive for Coronavirus. Chris Smalling’s loan spell has come to an end and he’s therefore ineligible to play for Roma. Jordan Vertout, Lorenzo Pellegrini, and Antonio Mirante are all ruled out for the Italian giants.

Roma vs Sevilla Prediction: 1-1

Roma have won just one of their last six games against Spanish opposition while Sevilla has won all encounters against Italian opponents. However, given that this is the first competitive meeting against these two Europeans titans, coupled with the fact that this will be played on neutral ground, the both teams to score (BTTS) option should be considered.
