Sassuolo will be looking to extend their winning run to five in a row when they welcome league leaders Juventus to the Mapei Stadium on Wednesday night. This match is set to go underway at 19:45 GMT with both sets of fans hoping the teams do their bit to obtain all three points.
Roberto De Zerbi and his men are looking like contenders for the final Europa League slot. They currently sit at eight position on the table and they will be looking to secure another three points and put pressure on Napoli and AC Milan who currently occupy the sixth and seventh positions
respectively.
They would be looking to collect six points from the top two teams in the league within five days as they beat Lazio in a 2-1 victory at the Stadio Olimpico last weekend. Instrumental in that comeback victory was their top scorer Francesco Caputo who came off the bench to provide an assist for Giacomo Raspadori in the 52nd minute to equalize after Luis Alberto fired Lazio in front. He then scored a 90th-minute winner to seal all three points for his side. Confidence is pretty much in high levels in the Sassuolo camp as they’re pushing for a top-six finish - a feat they’ve managed once in the last four seasons.
With regards to the Old lady, they close in on their ninth Scudetto in a row as they go into this match with an eight-point lead on second-placed Lazio. They have however been disappointing over the last few games, needing star striker Cristiano Ronaldo to convert a controversial 90th-minute penalty in order to secure a point in a 2-2 draw last weekend against Atalanta.
The Old lady has struggled in defence shipping eight goals in the past four games. They have been heavily dependent on Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals who is just one behind Lazio’s Ciro Immobile in the race for the capocannoniere.
The reverse fixture earlier on in the season ended in a stalemate with both sides scoring two goals each. The Bianconeri have been dominant prior to the last match at the Allianz Stadium with nine wins from nine matches against their opponent. The Neroverdi could, however, steal all three points like they did in their only win against the Old Lady back in the 15/16 season as they managed a narrow 1-0 victory.
Sassuolo are expected to play Wednesday’s match without Gregoire Defrel and Filippo Romagna who are nursing injures. Francesco Caputo and Domenico Berardi are expected to start since they were not in the starting eleven against Lazio. For the Old lady, Juan Cuadrado will miss out through suspension after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Atalanta. Sami Khedira and Mattia De Sciglio are both out on the sidelines nursing injuries.
