Although Internazionale are guaranteed to enter the new year as league leaders, they welcome Torino to the San Siro on Wednesday night looking to preserve or even further their lead at the summit of the Serie A standings.
Torino head into this game having lost all of the last four meetings with Internazionale in the Italian top-flight. Do they have what it takes to pull off a shock result at the fifth time of asking ?
Six consecutive league wins for the hosts
Simone Inzaghi's troops haven't put a foot wrong in Serie A since the 1-1 draw against local rivals Milan back last month. Since then, we've seen them steamroll their way through the competition in the league winning their last six league games, scoring nineteen goals and conceding just two- with clean sheets in their last five league matches if we might add. Last time out, they put five past Salernitana in yet another five-star performance from the Nerrazzuri and what better way to end the year than picking up your seventh league victory on the bounce.
Torino, on the other hand, are also in decent form as they head into this game intending to make it three league wins on the bounce. The Turin based outfit certainly would've been disappointed having lost to Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia just days after a narrow league victory against Bologna. However, they didn't have any issues making it two consecutive league victories, edging past 10-man Hellas Verona via a 26th-minute strike from Pobega. As expected, the defending champions would be a bigger fish to fry, however, Torino's recent form should be enough to spur them to a brilliant performance at the San Siro- even though they head into the game as underdogs.
