Asian Handicap and how it works
Many people still don't understand the Asian handicap betting market and we want to shed some light on it. Asian Handicap eliminates the possibility of a draw in a Soccer match, reducing the match to two possible outcomes. There are two types of handicap – half goal (0.5, 1.5 etc) and whole goal (0,1 etc). In the case of a half-goal handicap, there is a clear winner since it is not possible to score half a goal. For the whole goal handicap, if the result is level after the handicap is taken into consideration, then all bets are refunded.
Example:
There are three options available on this football match normally:
- Bayern Munich wins.
- Borussia Dortmund wins.
- The match ends in a Draw.
In Asian Handicap markets, the draw option is taken out of the equation, so you have two options to choose from. In this case, Bayern Munich is a clear favourite, so the handicap is one and a half goals:
- Bayern Munich -1.5
- Borussia Dortmund +1.5
This is a simple Asian Handicap betting case, a team gets a start of half number of goals (+0.5, +1.5, +2.5 etc). The team who scores the most with the handicap taken into account is the winner. Take, for instance, Backing Bayern Munich to win against Borussia Dortmund with a handicap of -1.5, to win the bet Bayern must win the match by 2 or more goals.
You lose when Borussia Dortmund wins, there's a draw or Bayern Munich win by one goal. Other Asian Handicap markets give teams two head starts (or handicaps for the match favorite). We have a combo of half goal and whole goal handicaps (+0 & +0.5, -0 & -0.5). These bets are sometimes referred to as “Quarter-Goal Handicaps”.
Quarter Goal Handicap
A handicap that is made up of two sections, like 0 & -0.5, or +1.5 & +2.0. It means that the bet is 50/50 between the two handicaps. These are often referred to as -1/4 (-0.25) or +1 ¾ (+1.75) goals handicaps. So if you back Barcelona +1.0 & +1.5 (also +1 ¼ or +1.25) with $50, you are effectively betting $25 on Barcelona +1.0 and $25 on Barcelona + 1.5.
• Barcelona +0 & +0.5
• Real Madrid -0 & -0.5
The stake is divided between the zero handicap bet and the half-goal handicap which means that if you back Barcelona for $10 to win Real Madrid with a handicap of -0 and -0.5, you have two separate $5 bets - Barcelona -0 and Barcelona -0.5.
1. Barcelona wins by 1 goal or more, both bets win.
2. The match ends in a draw, the -0.5 handicap bet loses and other half (+0) is void and refunded.
3. Barcelona loses, both parts of the bet lose.

Settlement score is the final result after the Asian Handicap is taken into account. This final score settles all the bets in the Asian Handicap markets.
